Years later, Vinnie Jones told a TV interviewer, ‘He had to have it. He was giving the crowd all that, giving it the big ‘un.’ Jones became a fan favourite during his short spell at Elland Road, which ended with promotion to the First Division. On this particular match day, he decided to have some fun before the game kicked off. While the mascot hit shots on goal, Jones decided to take him out in front of a packed Kop end. John Varley – as usual – was the man on the spot and the only photographer to capture this memorable incident.
